Territorial Governance between Smartness and Artificial Intelligence. The Law of Digital Cities 

Year: I | Hours: 6 

The module examines reforms of local government systems and functions, particularly in light of digitalisation and new approaches to territorial governance. It analyses the regulatory framework and the use of advanced digital tools, including the Internet of Things (IoT) and Artificial Intelligence, while addressing the need to reconcile the digital and green transitions within the evolving EU framework. Particular attention is devoted to digital cities, administrative and digital citizenship, and the emerging right to and of the city. 

ENGLISH LANGUAGE 

Year: I | Hours: 20 

The course is designed for PhD candidates in Legal Sciences and aims to develop advanced academic communication skills in English. It focuses on academic writing and speaking, including scientific articles, abstracts, conference presentations, academic interaction, academic style, argumentation, hedging, cohesion, formal vocabulary and specialised legal terminology. 

Roots and Perspectives of Legal-Historical Research: Models and Developments 

Year: I | Hours: 6 

The course explores rhetoric as a technique of argumentation, the use of artificial intelligence in judicial decision-making, and selected topics in ancient private and criminal law in dialogue with contemporary legal systems. It provides an overview of the contributions of legal-historical methodology to both theory and practice. 

Sustainability and Business Law 

Year: I | Hours: 6 

The module analyses sustainability and corporate governance, focusing on national legislation and recent EU directives on sustainability reporting, as well as their implications for business practices and potential civil and criminal liability. 

Sustainability and Future Generations: Challenges, Problems and Opportunities Across Disciplines 

Year: I | Hours: 7 

Topics include sustainable development and the Green New Deal, European Green Deal and competitive sustainability, and public intervention in the economy for environmental purposes. 

Methodology of Legal Science 

Year: I | Hours: 6 

The module critically examines major theoretical issues common to the various branches of legal science, including theories of law, sources of law, constitutional theory, legal interpretation and legal language. 

Informed Consent to Medical Treatment, Informed Consent to Scientific Research, and Financial Capacity 

Year: I | Hours: 6 

The course provides knowledge of informed consent doctrine, methods for assessing decision-making capacity in healthcare and scientific research, and approaches to evaluating financial capacity and protecting vulnerable individuals. 

The Sustainability of Justice Between Efficiency and Constitutional Rights 

Year: I | Hours: 8 

The module explores the relationship between judicial efficiency and the protection of constitutional rights, examining judicial organisation, access to justice, and the functioning of civil proceedings. 

Law, Religion and Algorithmic Regulation. Protection of the Sacred and Combating Antisemitism in Digital Environments 

Year: I | Hours: 6 

The course examines the relationship between religious freedom, climate change, indigenous spiritual traditions, environmental degradation and international law, adopting an interdisciplinary and intercultural perspective. 

The Transport System: New Technologies and Sustainability 

Year: I & II | Hours: 8 

The module provides legal and technical knowledge concerning developments in air, maritime, road and rail transport systems, focusing on sustainability and safety through innovative technologies. 

Legal Research and Interdisciplinarity 

Year: I & II | Hours: 6 

The course promotes critical reflection on interdisciplinary research methodologies, particularly the interaction between social, historical and legal research. 

Alternative Dispute Resolution and Consensual Forms of Justice 

Year: I & II | Hours: 8 

The module introduces ADR mechanisms, their principles, models and applications in civil, criminal and public law contexts, including mediation, arbitration and restorative justice. 

Negotiation Techniques Against Non-Performance and Contractual Imbalance 

Year: I & II | Hours: 8 

The course examines contractual remedies, penalty clauses, termination clauses, hardship clauses and mechanisms for managing contractual imbalance in domestic and international commercial relationships. 

Adequacy of Pension Benefits Between Legislative Reforms and Constitutional Protection 

Year: I & II | Hours: 4 

The module analyses reforms of the Italian pension system, labour market transformations, and constitutional case law concerning the adequacy of pension benefits and social security protection.
